Contact me

My private practice office hours are Tuesday - Thursday by appointment. I am flexible with times of day to meet my clients' needs. I do my best to get back to folks within one or two business days, but circumstances outside my control may delay that - if so, I thank you for your patience.

Since I am often in session, the fastest way to reach me is usually through email.

Resources

As I am a private practitioner, I am unable to provide crisis counselling or emergency assistance.  There are many options for people in crisis, and what is best for you may depend on many factors.  If you need immediate help, please contact one or more of the below, or research other options and try them if that feels safe.  Also, regardless of whether you are in crisis or emergency, I suggest reviewing the below and developing a mental health crisis plan that includes people who you trust to help you, and resources to contact in order of preference and circumstance.

  • a supportive loved one, such as a friend, partner, close family member, or good neighbour, who can help you right away.  If you are worried about putting pressure on them, I encourage you to let them decide for themselves how much capacity they have to help, and to remember that helping often makes helpers feel good about themselves.
    • You may wish to show your loved one(s) this or another list of supports, so that if they are uncertain about how best to help they can assist you in finding support..  This can feel very good for helpers.
  • a roommate or housemate.
  • a crisis support line.  Google can be helpful in finding a local one.  Some options are:
    • Talk Suicide at 1-833-456-4566 or talksuicide.ca available 24/7
    • ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 or connexontario.ca available 24/7 for mental health, substance use, and gambling support
    • Distress and Crisis Ontario at dcontario.org click through to chat from 2PM to 2AM, or to find local resources at any time.
    • Assaulted Women's Helpline at:  1-866-863-0511, TTY 1-866-863-7868, or text to #SAFE (#7233) on Bell, Rogers, Fido, or Telus phones.
    • Hope For Wellness Helpline:  1-855-242-3310 or hopeforwellness.ca for 24/7 support for Indigenous people in Canada; available in English, French, and upon request in Cree, Anishinaabemowin, and Inuktitut
    • LGBT Youthline:  youthline.ca, 1-800-268-9688, or text at 647-694-4275 for peer support (but not emergency support - eg., not if you are in immediate danger) for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, as well as youth questioning their gender and/or sexuality; Sunday - Friday 4 PM - 9:30 PM
  • A hospital Emergency Room; if you can safely get yourself to your preferred ER, you may wish to do that.  If you are in immediate danger, please go to wherever is closest.
  • Emergency Medical Services through 911.  EMS workers often have experience helping people with urgent mental health needs   Please note, 911 may also dispatch fire and police personnel.  I mention that because I recognize the fraught relationship that police services have in responding to mental health distress, in particular with Indigenous, Black, POC, and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
